YOUR QUICK GUIDE TO SPORTS GEAR STORAGE

YOUR QUICK GUIDE TO SPORTS GEAR STORAGE

While you may be committed to leaving it all on the field when it’s time to release your athletic skills, failing to commit to the proper cleaning and storage of your sports equipment can ruin your game.  Whether you are late to a game since you lost your favorite pair of custom socks or your tennis racket has loose strings from improper storage, organization matters.  For the pro, hobbyist or just for the love of the game, these storage tips can help keep your sports gear organized.

1. Improve Functionality in Your Current Space

Step back and look at where you keep your sports gear now.  Large, bulky items are often left in the garage, while clothing items are thrown in the closet, under the bed or in the laundry room.  Looking at your current level of organization gives you an idea of which area to improve upon first.

Don`t leave your t-shirts, jersey, custom socks and footwear in a gym bag under the bed.  Use a storage organizer with compartments to separate out items.  A corkboard can hang sports gear in your room or garage, and keep a dedicated shoe rack for your athletic footwear.

2. Rethink Garage Storage

Many people use the garage to store large objects like kayaks, tennis rackets, bats, bikes or balls, but throwing things in the space half-hazard leads to clutter and equipment damage.  Use ceiling hooks to store a surfboard or a bike, and bungee cords stretched across a square frame can organize your basketballs or soccer balls.  The space between your garage door and the side wall is perfect for this solution.

3. Distinguish Between Seasonal Gear

There are seasons to many sporting activities, and you may be wasting valuable storage space on a short-term access approach to sports gear.  For instance, you don`t need your kayak during the winter months, but leaving it in the garage may be taking up space where you could put your snowboard or snow skis.  For the avid athlete with a lot of gear, consider renting a small storage unit to store oversized seasonal items.  Thoroughly wash and disinfect your jersey, custom socks, gloves and any other wearables before storing them for the offseason in a labeled container or storage bag.

4. Follow Storage Recommendations

It is easy to cave into your exhaustion and throw your sports gear into a heap once you get home, but storing and handling your equipment incorrectly will shorten the lifespan and decrease the reliability of your gear.  Hanging gear on hooks allows any moisture to dry and prevents mildew growth and unpleasant odors.  You can use a laundry bag to store clothing items, as you can easily see what gear is on hand and also allows for airflow.  You also prevent damage to expensive equipment when people aren`t stepping on it or knocking it into walls or furniture.

5. Invest in Organizational Tools

To make sure your gear lasts as long as your enthusiasm for the game, invest in quality storage systems.  Custom shelving units for the garage make the most of your space with the requirements of the size and scope of your gear collection.  Pulley systems that attach to the ceiling make easy-access storage options for bikes, surfboards or other oversized equipment.  Space saver vacuum storage bags labeled and put under the bed or a shelf in the closet can keep your athletic items from getting lost, dirty and smelly while you wait for the season to roll around.

There are just as many options for making more sense of your sports gear as there are for buying a pair of custom sports socks.  At Socks Rock, you can build a sock to your unique design and stand out on the field.  Get creative with your wardrobe and your gear storage.
