HOW TO STOP LATE NIGHT SNACKING

Every night after dinner, I sit on the couch, watch TV and grab whatever snack that is in the pantry.  It’s always something that’s unhealthy and that can up my calorie intake for the day.  The reason I made this goal is because I love to snack.  So, I thought if I make a goal on how to stop late night snacking, it would help break the habit.

One thing I’ve tried in the past that has helped me, is to only give myself a 12 hour period of when I can eat.  The hours I aim for everyday to eat are, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.  These hours work the best for my schedule but pick a time frame that work the best for you and your family.  When I stop eating after 8:00 pm, it puts an end to my late night snacking and helps control how many calories I consume each day.

HOW TO STOP LATE NIGHT SNACKING

Tips to avoid late night snacking

  • Have healthy snacks available in the kitchen.  Try and get in the habit of making healthy snacks so they are available when the cravings hit.
  • Don’t buy large amounts of junk food.  If the kitchen doesn’t have the junk food you won’t be able to eat it.
  • Take it slow and don’t cut out all junk food at once.  Treating ourselves once in awhile is not a bad thing.
  • Give yourself a 12 hour time frame to eat
  • If you enjoy a nightly snack and don’t want to give it up, try and keep the snacks at about 150-200 calories.  Nuts, fruit, whole grain crackers or raw veggies are some choices to pick.
  • Eat a large dinner.  Make sure the meals eaten are balanced.  Some choices of healthy food choices are:
Seafood or skinless poultry
Brown or wild rice
Whole grain pasta
Beans
Dark green vegetables
Salads
Fresh fruit for dessert
  • Use My Fitness Pal to track calories.  It has helped me not eat that candy bar that will put me over my calories for the day.
  • Keep yourself busy so the cravings stay away.  Either take a walk after dinner, play a game with your family or clean the house.  If your just sitting around, the urge to snack is more high.
  • Drink either water or tea if your hungry.

New habits and changes are not always easy.  All we can do is the best we can and keep trying until we achieve what we have our heart on.
