WHY ENTREPRENEURS SHOULD PRACTICE SELF-CARE

Here’s another awesome guest post we have to share with you this week.  Why Entrepreneurs Should Practice Self-Care by Sara Bailey.  Thank you Sara for providing this great post for us!!  We really enjoyed it and appreciate the time you took for us!!

According to research by the Babson College team of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, nearly 16% of working-age Americans run their own businesses. However, being an entrepreneur has its difficulties, and business owners face unique stress, especially those with children. While it may seem counter-intuitive, the best thing entrepreneurs can do to improve productivity is take a break.

Self-care has become a buzzword in recent years, but it honestly provides much-needed benefits. Verywell Mind notes that taking the time to address your emotional and mental needs leaves you refreshed and improves your physical health. The best part is that you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars or take months away to feel the effects. You can practice self-care in 15 minutes with these low-cost, minimal-effort ideas from Living 4 You Boutique.

Establish a Fitness Routine

Exercising is crucial to physical and mental well-being, but it’s sometimes challenging to find time or motivation. If you have a busy schedule, carve out 30 minutes to get your body moving. Additionally, make sure you choose activities you enjoy. That way, you’ll look forward to that time and be more likely to stick to your schedule. There are plenty of ways to exercise, so you’re bound to find something that appeals to you:

  • Join a local sports league
  • Take a pilates class
  • Go on a solo jog
  • Follow yoga tutorials on YouTube in your home

You also want to wear comfortable clothing, and it doesn’t hurt if it’s cute. In fact, showing off new athletic wear is excellent motivation. If you have breasts, find a sports bra that fits securely without being too tight. During warm months, you can wear bike shorts that allow a wide range of motion while keeping you cool. Finally, many people find leggings comfortable due to their stretchiness and soft fabric. Make sure you read reviews and try them on before purchasing, as the right fit is essential to maximum comfort.

Try Relaxation Techniques

When you’re stressed, your body releases hormones that help you avoid danger, but prolonged exposure to these natural chemicals can harm your health by causing:

  • Lower energy levels
  • Poor sleep quality
  • Significant changes in appetite

Fortunately, you can combat stress with a few moments of mindfulness. Practicing relaxation techniques slows your heart rate and takes your body out of the fight-or-flight response. The following methods are easy to master and only take about five minutes:

  • Meditate
  • Control your breathing
  • Pray

Outsource Services

As an entrepreneur, you probably did everything yourself when you started your business. However, it may be in your best interest to outsource the more tedious or demanding tasks. While outsourcing costs money, it saves time by freeing up your schedule and your headspace. You may even save money by streamlining your operations. If you run a small business, here are a few tasks to consider outsourcing:

  • Customer support
  • Payroll
  • Graphic design

For those services that you don’t outsource, be sure to invest in the right tools for your employees. For example, getting accounting software that works for your company can make a substantial difference. Tasks can be made more efficient, freeing up time for other important business tasks.

Spend Time Outdoors

Being in nature is great for your health. Spending time outside lowers blood pressure, reduces anxiety, and can even help you live longer. If you stay inside the majority of your day, try the following to get out of the office more often:

  • Eat lunch outside
  • Take a walk
  • Try a new outdoor sport
  • Explore local parks and trails
  • Plant a garden

Self-care is an essential part of maintaining your mental health. While it’s easy to justify putting off “you time,” you deserve to feel energized. In fact, making your well-being a priority can positively impact your business, as you do your best work when you’re feeling your best.
