Luxury travel is not an adults-only endeavor. Going on a luxury vacation with kids, however, does require taking several additional steps to prepare. You’ll want to choose the right resort, bring plenty of entertainment options for travel days and ensure your kids know what to expect. PREPARING YOUR CHILDREN FOR LUXURY TRAVEL

Preparing Your Children For Luxury Travel

Review the Resort Amenities

Where you stay during your luxury family vacation has a significant impact on how much you and your kids enjoy the trip. Many family-friendly luxury resorts offer kid-friendly activities and amenities. Some offer kids’ clubs where qualified staff members supervise kids for several hours. Kids’ clubs allow parents to fully relax, hit the spa or do some kid-free adventuring.

Other kid-friendly amenities include multiple swimming pools, nanny services, kids’ menus, live entertainment and special child-centered services. Luxury resorts may also offer kids welcome gifts, children’s bathrobes, bath toys and turndown treats. Choose a resort that goes the extra mile for families, and you won’t be disappointed.

Reserve a Suite

Extra space can go a long way toward your family’s happiness on vacation. Suites give you enough room to spread out while remaining close enough to make lasting memories together. Depending on the age of your kids, you may want to book a suite with a separate bedroom for the children. Never try to squeeze too many family members into one room as it can cause more controversies than bonding.

Pack Wisely

The days leading up to your luxury vacation are not the time to let kids pack their own belongings. You may arrive at your destination with a suitcase full of stuffed animals and none of the supplies your child needs.

Plan complete outfits for every day of your trip before putting them in your suitcase. This ensures your little ones have the correct amount of clothing while looking sharp throughout the trip. Pack plenty of sunscreen, hats, and any toys, games or devices they’ll want for entertainment. Keep in mind that airport delays and long restaurant wait times are possibilities.

Ask What You Can Borrow

Many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and other popular family vacation destinations have gear for kids on site. Ask about the possibility of borrowing or renting strollers, cribs, highchairs and other items. Leaving these behind will free up your arms for more enjoyable and convenient travel days.

Hit Upscale Restaurants at Lunchtime

You may be eager to visit a luxury resort or a particular travel destination for the cuisine. For many travelers, dining at award-winning restaurants is one of the most exciting parts of going on vacation. Consider visiting upscale restaurants with your kids during lunchtime, when servers have more time to accommodate them. Upscale restaurants also tend to be less crowded for lunch, so you won’t have to be as concerned about your little ones causing disturbances.

Let the Kids Do Some Planning

The goal of a family vacation is to ensure everyone has an enjoyable and unforgettable time. Research your luxury vacation destination with your kids to see what activities are possible in the area. Let them choose an activity they want to do, whether that’s fishing, visiting a theme park, horseback riding, ziplining or one of many other adventures. The concierge can also be a valuable source for finding kid-friendly activities the locals enjoy.

Pack Their Favorite Snacks

A kid without snacks can become grumpy fast. You may not always be a short walk to a resort buffet or snack bar, so we recommend coming prepared. Bring some of your kids’ favorite snacks with you in the car, on the plane, on tours and throughout your trip. A kid battling jet lag may wake up hungry in the middle of the night. You’ll be glad you have a stash of animal crackers or granola bars on hand.

You don’t have to wave luxury travel goodbye when you create a family. Instead, bring the kids along for a fun-filled vacation at a luxury resort. Follow the tips above and remain adaptable if hiccups occur. A luxury vacation with your family could be your best getaway yet.
