6 WAYS TO BE AUTHENTICALLY YOU THIS YEAR

Hi friends.  We have another awesome guest post to share, 6 Ways to Be Authentically You This Year, by Sarah Bull from Economy Mom this week.  Thank you for providing this great article for us!!  We really enjoyed it and appreciate the time you took for us!!

Did you know that authenticity is linked to happiness?  People whose lifestyle aligns with their values enjoy a greater sense of well-being.  Instead of relying on external factors to feel good, authentic people find happiness from within

When you live authentically, your values guide your actions and behaviors – not others’ expectations of who you should be.  Authentic people reject the pressure to conform and embrace their true identity.  They understand who they are, what matters to them, and make choices that align with those core values.  That all sounds great – but what does it look like in action?

Here are six strategies from Living 4 You Boutique to help you in the new year.

Make time for what matters

Living authentically starts with letting go of the urge to please everyone else.  When you learn to set boundaries and say no, you free up time to work on yourself.  That includes rediscovering what it means to be authentically you.  Make time for hobbies, self-care, and introspection and embrace what makes you unique.

Chase your big dreams

Perfectionism.  Fear of failure.  A hidden belief that you’re not good enough or it’s too late to start.  These are some of the reasons women abandon their dreams, but the truth is, there’s always room for growth.

Identify your innermost desires and find practical ways to achieve them.  Do you want to move up the professional ladder but don’t have time for a master’s degree?  You don’t have to abandon your job and family for campus life if you earn your degree online.  Want to travel but chronically short on cash?  Instead of racking up credit card debt hitting the hottest destinations, practice slow travel to get the most out of your limited travel budget.

Be yourself on social media

In a time of beauty filters and personal branding, it’s beyond tempting to present the most highly-curated version of yourself on social media.  Yet research shows we’re happiest when we share our true selves on social media rather than our “best self.”  Post what makes you happy, not what gets the most likes, and open up about your real life and what matters to you.

Surround yourself with the right people

You might lose some followers when you present your authentic self on social media, but the ones who stick around are the ones who appreciate you for you.

Likewise, stop spending time in real life with people who bring you down or pressure you to be someone you’re not.  Good friends make you feel comfortable in your own skin.  Even if you don’t agree on everything, the right people embrace your imperfections while encouraging you to be the best version of you.

Listen to your body

Unsure if a choice is serving you or draining you?  Ask your intuition.  If you’ve ever caught yourself clenching your jaw when stressed or growing nauseous in response to anxiety, you know that your body has a lot to say about how you’re feeling.

Cultivate your authentic style

Being authentic inside and out includes creating a first impression that reflects our true self.  Examine your wardrobe and how your style and accessories make you feel.  Does the clothing and jewelry you wear show the world who you are, or does getting dressed feel like putting on a mask?

Meshing your self with your style isn’t always easy.  Maybe you’re a working woman stuck with a rigid dress code or a stay-at-home mom prioritizing function over form.  In these moments, look for little ways to express your true self.  Something as simple as putting on a unique necklace or handcrafted earrings can be a powerful act of reclaiming your authentic style.

Learning to live an authentic life isn’t a straightforward journey.  There will be times your confidence falters and the fear of missing out leads you to question your path.  However, when you finally connect to your guiding light and learn to let go of things that don’t serve you, you’ll discover the true power of your authentic self.
